England, the Underdog Became Tournament Favorite

July 5, 2018

England is the youngest team in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ and they were the underdogs according to football critics before the tournament began. Yesterday, England met Colombia @ Spartak stadium to check their eligibility to quarter final and it was an astonishing match.

Game went down to wire past the extra time and penalties were required to decide the winner. Whole game was filled with frenetic motions but 0-0 showed in the end of first half. But England were blessed with a spot kick which was given after a brought down in penalty area, and Three Lion’s captain Harry Kane was successful in converting that to a goal. But @ 90’ + 3’, Y.Mina found the net with excellent header which levelled the game 1-1. Since, there was no show in extra time, penalty shootout was the last option where England became victorious 4-3. It was the Dier’s foot that played the decisive spot kick.

England’s young captain Harry Kane was the man of the match and was it his sixth goal in the tournament making him the England’s second highest world cup goal scorer next to Gary Lineker (10). More than that, Kane is the highest goal scorer in the tournament so far and more likely to grab the Adidas golden boot. It is inevitable that his name will be written on history book for leading the team from underdog to tournament favorite. England is still live in their dream to lift their second world cup title after 1966. Let’s wait few more hours to witness the England’s respond to Sweden.
